9wk english bulldog female. wont stop biting me? I've tried yelping loud to get her attention as if to say it hurts but she still continues to do it. How do I stop her before she gets too big to allow a nibble?

All pups go through this biting stage. I think the rough play is just a part of them until they realize they are not allowed to do it. Yelling No or Ouch and leaving them will do it if you are consistent. I had a couple of really bad nips from my baby until she caught on. I taught her to give baby bites, which means just opening her mouth over my finger. They can damage you if they aren't stopped so use the crate for time out if the biting gets bad. She is just a baby and has to learn manners. Nine weeks is still like infancy so be patient. Best of luck to the both of you!

Give her a toy, so she has something else to bite on other than your hand.

Yelping as you already said is a good idea, make sure it startles the dog, like really startles the dog, this is the only way you will get its attention.

Swatting it's nose when it does it is also a good idea.

And if you have to, whenever it snaps at you or nibbles you, hold its mouth closed, and say no biting. Say this every time she bites you as well. Eventually she will get the idea that that means not to bite you.

Another idea is she is just trying to play, so play with her enough that she doesn't need to bug you to.

I have a 13 week old Bichonpoo and I simply tell her "no bite" and remove my hand from her mouth. I NEVER have to repeat "no bite" more than twice and she stops. As long as it is said firmly and the hand is removed she understands. If Esperanza is playing and mouthing as well as biting another thing that works with her is to remove the hand and give her a bone, kong or toy and tell her "switch". Replace the hand which she cannot bite with something she can bite. Do not shout at the puppy. The puppy interprets shouting as another dog barking at it. And do not hit the puppy this will lead to aggressive biting.

Do the yelp thing, walk out of the room...then have some peanut butter handy, put a dab on your hand and while puppy licks it off say 'kisses' and reward puppy for kissing you...when you do this enough you will only have to say 'kisses' when puppy is biting you and puppy will stop and kiss you instead for a nice reward of a pet on the head!! It wont take long for your pup to catch on either...

dogs give up biting while you educate them to not chew. Its no longer anything they "develop out of".. When she bites.. yelp "OUCH" use the equal tone a dog might if it received bit too difficult. If she maintains to chew, yelp "OUCH" once more, then stroll away and forget about the dog for 10-15 minutes. This teaches the dog.. you're being too difficult, Im no longer having a laugh, so sport over. The dog will gain knowledge of to not chew if she needs to maintain gambling. Also inspire using toys for play.. do compliment your dog for all correct interactions additionally.. gambling with toys, getting puppy or brushed with out biting, and so on.

After the yelp, immediately put a toy in her mouth. Always have a toy handy to replace your hand with. Also, if this is not working, if she touches you with her teeth, yelp, immediately get up and walk away totally ignoring her. Bite = no more friend to play with.

Bite her back... NOT LITERALLY, but the act and feel of a bite.

I'll probably catch it from all angles on this one, but.....

What would a momma dog do? Nip them with a growl to let them know it is NOT acceptable behavior and WILL NOT tolerate it.

Pinch her lip and with a low growling voice tell her "noooo bite".
With a Bullie, their lips are pretty thick, so you may have to pinch her a little hard. I'm not going to say it doesn't hurt the dog, it's a pinch for pete sake, but you are replicating a nip and letting her know you are alpha, you do not like it and you will not tolerate it.

Yeah, she is just playing with you. My puppy does that as well, and it's his way of playing with us. If he bites hard, we tap him on the nose, then point to him and say "NO" then after a couple times of doing it, he understands. This isn't a total cure though, he still bites occassionally, but not as much as he first did.

Keep toys with you at all times, when she starts to bite give her a toy to chew on instead. We just got a new puppy and i am going thru the same thing...rawhides work great too.

She's just playing, and it hurts because she still has her milk teeth. They are very sharp. If you want to teach her to be more gentle, you can try holding her mouth closed and giving her a gentle shake while saying "No! Bad (puppy's name)!" I also found that a little flick on the nose works well.
