I'm trying to lose weight....I know wrong time especially with Halloween over and all but still so we have candy in our house. I told my mom to hide it or something because I get a chocolate whenever I go past it. My mom says I'm not addicted and I should have self control but really I can't! The chances of me getting a chocolate from that jar is 99.99% everytime I go to that room. So I was wondering if it has been proving that chocoalte is addicting...

Chocolate has caffeine in it, which can be highly addictive. Other products that have caffeine which are more well known to have people become addicted are such things as coffee, tea, & soda, just to name a few. So yes, it is possible to become addicted; caffeine causes endorphins to flow through your brain, creating a pleasurable feeling, which some people's body will crave (just like my dad cannot function in the morning without his coffee). If you completely cut out that substance (like going cold turkey for someone who has been drinking caffeinated coffee every day for awhile), you will go through withdrawal. In my graduate program, some students have taken the drug & alcohol counseling class, where they had to completely cut out a substance; many chose caffeine, and got headaches, jittery, etc. While chocolate does not have as much caffeine as a cup o' joe, it has caffeine. If your mom drinks coffee, try asking her to give that up...she'll see how difficult it can be! Same endorphins being engaged...different way of intaking that caffeine!!

No, I don't think it's addictive, but it's been proven that chocolate is good for your heart (it must be Dark chocolate, though). Here is a quote from an article:

"..New and yet-to-be-published studies are showing that antioxidants in chocolate -- dark chocolate and cocoa powder -- may increase "good" (HDL) cholesterol levels by as much as 10 percent, says Penny Kris-Etherton, Ph.D., a registered dietitian at Pennsylvania State University..."

It is only addicting if you let it be. You need to keep control. Dont let the chocolate control your life. After you dont eat it for a while, you wont even want it anymore. you almost lose a taste for it.

Most snacking is a spur of the moment choice, before you eat that candy count your age, maybe as you are young count your age twice. I did this to avoid a cupcake, by the time I got to 36, I was able to walk away from the snack table without eating the cupcake.

I dont think it is adicting. I could eat one without eating more.If you crave it your going to want tons more.Eat some fruit when you go into that room.Try not to eat alot. If you find something that has a little chocolate and is healthy try it to get it off your mind.

It's the caffeine in the chocolate that's addictive.
