What are some ideas that don't include medicine. I have taken depression medicine in the past and I don't like the side effects. Although vacationing would be ideal I need some methods that I can use right away.

I suggest you to have a relaxing Indian massage (that is called ayurvedic) and, after that, a massage on your feet. It is Chinese and it is called "reflexology".
After that drink some green tea, listening to a very soft music.
Another thing that is great is to watch a very funny movie and laugh. Laughing is one of the best thing you can do to relax.

I am sorry to learn of your depression. Make a list of what causes you to be depressed. Then, get some feedback from your friends, colleagues. What are your good points? Do people find you attractive because of your appearance, personality, intelligence, wit, interests. Work on what makes you happy. Drop others that depress you and this way you're grow out of depression in no time.

St. John's Wort. Capsules, not tablets. Take a 300mg. dose three or four times a day [space it evenly] and see how you feel in two weeks.

The only side effects are that you might burn more easily in the sun. But if you're on blood thinners or having surgery soon, don't take this herb.

Meditation , yoga, tapes of the ocean, etc. Also any music you find soothing. If you have a place you can go like the beach or the woods, even your back yard, that might help.

i am not really sure
try writing poetry
or keep a journal
but whatever you do
do not cut yourself
i admit i have hadf a hard habbit of that
im recently stopping
havent dont it in a week or 2
but it is way not healthy and not worth it

take 10 minutes to just have some relaxing time by yourself...where you only think positive thoughts...or if you cant do that...just clear your mind of all thought!
or when im feeling stressed i like to write it down...makes me feel better or talk about it someone...
also go for a walk or run..by yourself...listen to music..that has some meaning for u! its nice...
OR if all else fails....hit the tub...have a nice hot bath...relaxes your muscles...
