I vote with a few other posters, but for the record...I have ten (10) cats, from a couple of years old up to age 21. I have eight litter boxes. I use the scoopable litter (Tidy Cats) and I do the boxes twice a day. There is no odor in my house. Cheap litter, an insufficient number of boxes and infrequent cleaning are probably the reason you have an odor. If you get more responsible about cleaning the boxes and have enough boxes to go around, there will be no odor.

The cat box is no danger to a pregnant woman, as another poster stated. If you are old enough to post this, you are old enough to do the litter cleaning duty. If you just don't want the cats, then I would suggest surrendering them to your local SPCA or Humane Society. Neither of these agencies will refuse a cat because that someone is determined to surrender.

Okay, first of all, "don't take them to Animal Care and Control, they more than likely will be euthanized. Find your nearest shelter
the ones who do not euthanize them right away, and tell them you found these cats in a box about 2 blocks away from their shelter. This way they can't charge you a fee for them being yours. Also, the most "humane" thing you could do, would be to volunteer a couple of weekends or whatever time you can spare, and help out at their shelter, okay? And when you go to volunteer, bring in a bag of cat or dog food, they can always use it. Are you okay with that? Either way, good luck.
P.S. I am a retired animal Care and Control Officer from Pinal Co. Arizona. I don't live there now though, but wish I did.

i didnt see your last question but urine in the litter box is not dangerous for pregnant women - its the feces.. and only then if the cats are mousers and only then IF the mouse was infected.. and only then IF the cats were not exposed to toxoplasmosis before hand which they likely were.. so if you are getting rid of them because of this.. its a low low low risk - for 7 cats you should have 7 litter boxes...

ok most "Free to good home" cats do NOT find good homes - most serial killers started out on "free pets"
unless you are prepared to do home checks you CANNOT be sure the homes are good...maybe a place cannot take ALL cats but could take SOME cats...
the younger ones have better hopes at finding homes.. older ones are seldom adopted and often euthanized.. your vet will know of other places in the area... keep looking
you can try an ad in the paper but ask questions of the new owners.. and dont give house cats to farm homes.. I live on a farm and house cats dont survive...

Try the Sun City Strays....You can get connected by calling the Humane Society, Also Kitty Love rescue group. There are many groups in Phx. that can help....Start by calling one and then another and so on until you find a spot for them. How many litter pans do you have for 7 cats? should be 2 per cat and an additional one. You really need to make an effort to find the places I have mentioned. Especially KITTY LOVE

Cats (pets) are not scarves or purses or shoes. Why on earth do you have so many yet are so quickly willing to get rid of them? Did the sandbox(s) never smell until suddenly today? You need at least one sandbox FOR EACH cat, minimum.

What about your dogs? Maybe you should find a better home for them too. What happens if you get tired of them or they damage something?

I hope you don't have children. They smell too sometimes.

No one is trying to be hateful here, but this is very upsetting.

Put them on Petfinder.com, I put a cat on there and I got 5 e-mail messages within an hour, but be careful, some want to have the animal shipped and offer you money for it, it is a scam so be careful. I looked on the internet for no-kill animal shelters and I find quite a few in my area-Good Luck I hope you find homes for your cats. I found Cat Welfare Society and I think they are nation wide.

See if there is a PAWS in your area -it is a no kill shelter, also call and talk with Petsmart for the names of the Cat Rescue Organizations that have cat adoptions on the weekends- if you go to church have your minister/priest announce your need to the congregation----Do Not put a ad in the paper for often sickos who harm animals and people who sell animals to medical labs will pretend they are cat(or dog etc.) lovers. If the litter box smells that bad you are NOT changing often enough also with 7 cats you need more than 1 litterbox-at the least 3-for will cut down on the odor esp the ammonia smell from the urine-take the feces out asap-you can also sprinke baking soda into the litterboxes-wuill not harm the cats but will cut also down on the odor-I have one cat and change the litterbox every 2-3(MAX)days and take the feces out daily in the AM and in the PM. UNless you get very lucky-try praying and asking God to help-its going to be very difficult to find a place for your cats SO you need to NOW really work on keeping the odor down and that means cleaning-when you empty the litterbox -clean it out with Vinegar for it will kill the odor from the litterbox itself-hopefully its or will be boxes-and also clean the floor around the litterboxes with vinegar. Put the litterboxes in a place the farthest in the house from your Mom I do not know bout your Mom's(parents) financial situation but if you cannot find a place and do not live in a apt but in a house with some yard think about getting a shed from Home Depot or Lowes-put straw into the shed on the floor so it will insulate against the cold -with my dog I have a garden shed as a dog house and I put some bales near the wall with a opening for the dog to go in and out of the bales (bales are kept tied for they will insulate and make it warm-can be gotten Home Depot.Lowes or any Garden Center also If you have a yard with Pine straw can also rake leaves and use to insulate and keep the cats in there. If your Mom cannot afford then again caall the Humane Society for help in housing your cats outside of the house. There are Rescue People who make dog houses for people who just tie their dogs outside maybe they can build a outside shelter for the cats or also if you go to church have the minister/priest ask for caarpentry help from the community-if you know someone that is good at making things in the neighborhood ask or help---if you do not go to church still call churches in your neighborhood or go in person and ask for help. Go to a Catholic Church and find the chapter called the Vincent DE Paul Society-they may help you in building a shelter or donating one for you. Go around to the hardware stores/Lowes/Home Depot/WalMart and ask for help-slightly damaged sheds that can't be sold. Anyway I wish you a lot of luck

i wouldnt see why it wouldnt be, my pure white cat angel was spayed at the humane society at 5 weeks old before we adopted her, but of course they took her to the vet to have it done. Going through the humane society can be the same cost as a normal vet since the cat isnt from the humane society itself. Not sure where your from but the humane society out in Missouri has low cost spay and neuter every now and then for $20

Let me get this straight....you want to get rid of your cats because YOU don't keep the litter boxes cleaned??? I hope you have MANY litter boxes for 7 cats. I hope you do find better homes for them than YOUR home, you obviously don't care much about them if you are giving them up because their litter box smells.
