Handwritten cards have traditionally been considered the correct way to say thank you after an interview. They add a personal touch - not so much of a mass mail template feel like a typed letter gives you.
It may be okay to type a letter/note, but you NEVER go wrong with a handwritten one.

The "normal" way is a paper. No matter how lazy you are, WRITE a letter. Keep it short, with only 2 paragraphs. First, Introduction. Second, the body. Wrap it up quick. My dad gets stuff like that. He doesn't even read the printed ones. DONOT give a personal touch, that is like buttering. Keep your writing simple and that is enough to give it a thankful" effect.
A card is a gift. I cant even imagine a card being sent to your boss for something like this!.
You did correct in making a letter than a card. But the choice of a write/type letter solely depends upon you.
I might agree with "tprtygrl", she did say "out of your way". Taking trouble to thank. I never thought about that. a long letter(not boring) would also give this effect.

A card is not a gift, writing a thank you card is better than typing a letter.

Printing a thank you letter or hand writing a thank you card are both very acceptable. Good luck.

This is an excellent idea. Get a nice professional thank you card. Thank them for their time and consideration and how you look forward to being an asset to the company's success by contributing ________. If you can hand deliver it, it would be nicer, but not necessary. (Gives them another chance to see you). Dress to impress. Smart thinking!

If you get hired, the best way to show your appreciation would be to come to work and work your @$$ off! or just say thanks before you leave.
