Your best bet is to take ibuprofen (only if you don't have problems with your stomach...like ulcers) and chew on some ice. Remember not to use a straw, and if you are going to drink alcohol, you need the hard stuff. Beer doesn't have a lot of alcohol and can cause more problems in the long run. If you take ibuprofen, every 8 hours, that will help with the pain and the swelling which the worst part is usually over 24-48 hours.

Its because you just put a HOLE IN YOUR TONGUE!! LOL I mean, seriously! I had my tongue pierced about 6 years ago and for the first 3 or 4 days, I was only able to suck on ice (which is what you should be doing to reduce the swelling) and ate jello, pudding, and yogurt. It will start to go down after a few days. Don't forget to rinse with listerine like 10 times a day, especially after you eat anything or drink anything that isn't water. Make sure everything you eat or drink is cool to help with the swelling. It will stop hurting so bad after a few days :)

Your tongue is bruised and has an incision running though the muscle. Whenever you swallow, or open your mouth, it pulls on your tongue at the base. It'll be worse tomorrow, then better after that. Take one Tylenol and one 200mg. Motrin every four hours. Rinse with warm water and salt. Don't use hydrogen peroxide--it slows healing.
And chew carefully in the future--the barbell can chip your teeth.

I did have my eye brow peirced.. didn't hurt at all... and it was SEXY!! lol you should try that ;)

It shouldn't really hurt that bad. Take some Ibuprofen and if it is still extremely sore tomorrow you may want to get it checked. I had mine done and I was able to eat that night. My friends who went to a cheap place both had to get there's taken out because of infection.

Your tongue is swollen and its trying to get used to having a piercing. It will probably feel alot better in a couple days. I got mine pierced and it hurt for a day or two and then it was fine. Try not to bite your tongue to much either. That might be whats causing it to hurt so much.

You ask and answre question in same breath, Grasshopper.
It hurts because you have a piece of metal stuck through a brand new freakin' hole in your tongue, that's why! Didn't anyone TELL you it was going to hurt?

THE HUMAN TONGUE IS FULL OF MUSCLES, BLOOD VESSELS AND NERVES. IT DOESN'T SURPRISE ME IT'S PAINFUL AND UNCOMFORTABLE. DESPITE ALL THE HORROR STORIES YOU HEAR, FOR A FEW DAYS YOU WILL BE IN PAIN. ONCE THE WOUND HEALS I MAY RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE A SHORT STEM NOT A LONG ONE.
THE REASON FOR THIS TO KEEP YOU FROM ACCIDENTALLY BITING ON EITHER END AND SUBSEQUENTLY BREAKING A TOOTH.
