Dehydration. Too much coffee or caffine or other stimulants. Coffee acts as a diuretic.. Lots of medications cause "dry mouth"- a very unpleasant sensation.

Dry mouth is the condition of not having enough saliva to keep your mouth wet. It is know as xerostomia.
Dry mouth can:
-Cause difficulties in tasting, chewing, swallowing, and speaking
-Increase your chance of developing dental decay and other infections in the mouth
-Be a sign of certain diseases and conditions
-Be caused by certain medications or medical treatments
So if you think you have dry mouth, see your dentist or physician.

a lot of salty foods in your diet can dry your mouth out too. make sure to drink plenty of water always.

Your mouth could be dry because of medications you take. It could be dry because you are not taking in enough water and are always slightly dehydrated. It could be dry because your have Sjogren's syndrome where the body does not make lubricating fluids like saliva and tears. Please see the link below.

you're not drinking enough water. chewing gum will make your mouth water/ not seem as dry, but as soon as you spit it out your mouth will go back to being dry again.
