My husband is an auto mechanic. He came home from work about 2 hours ago telling me that he didn't feel like eating because he thinks that he got carbon monoxide poisoning at work from a car that was running too long inside today. He never got a headache, or any symptoms other then he "just didn't feel right". He ate a little, and now is tired. He's stubborn about doctors. Is there anything I should worry about with him going to bed soon? It was hours ago, but I'm a worry-wart.

Thank you all for your advice. I couldn't get my husband to the hospital if I put a gun to his head.
I'll call poison control maybe. (I have to hide from him though. He thinks I'm overreacting.) Why did I have to marry such a stubborn man? Or are you all like that?

Mild carbon monoxide poisoning causes headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and poor coordination. Most people who develop mild carbon monoxide poisoning recover quickly when moved into fresh air. Moderate or severe carbon monoxide poisoning causes confusion, unconsciousness, chest pain, shortness of breath, and coma. Thus, most victims are not able to move themselves and must be rescued. Severe poisoning is often fatal. Rarely, weeks after apparent recovery from severe carbon monoxide poisoning, symptoms such as memory loss, poor coordination, and uncontrollable loss of urine (which are referred to as delayed neuropsychiatric symptoms) develop.
Carbon monoxide is dangerous because a person may not recognize drowsiness as a symptom of poisoning. Consequently, someone with mild poisoning can go to sleep and continue to breathe the carbon monoxide until severe poisoning or death occurs. Some people with long-standing, mild carbon monoxide poisoning caused by furnaces or heaters may mistake their symptoms for other conditions, such as the flu or other viral infections.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is diagnosed by measuring the level of carbon monoxide in the blood.

You should really call the hospital or a doctor because I haev learned that carbon monoxide poisoning causes you to be really tired and you pretty much just die "falling asleep". It shuts down your organs...it's not a good thing and I suggest you get some help for your husband...

Let your husband know that just because he is away from the car that he believes may have poisoned him he still needs to go to the er to do a blood test to see how much of the poison has entered his blood stream. Just because he seems okay enough to live now does not mean that he isnt poisoned.

My husband would have this problem too because he unloaded trucks that would park in a bay, backed up to a closed area. He had no appetite, had a bad headache and lost his cookies several times. I took him to the ER and they basically ran a blood test and sent him home with no medicines. He slept later and felt fine the next day.

As long as he is in a well ventilated area, he should be alright, if it is Carbon Monoxide that is affecting him. His work place should have hoses to connect to the car exhaust, and venting to the outside. I'd monitor him, as he may have something else, which may or may not be serious.
