Hmmm, I don't know if scare tactics are the best way to get your son to eat veggies?

Many people don't eat veggies or fruit. They live on meat and starches and seem pretty happy. It's true they may not live to be 75 years old, but that's a choice they make.

Buy your son a good children's vitamin like Centrum to help make up some of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

I'm a foster mom and often have picky eaters. I sneak veggies into food. I use a food processor to grind up onions, carrots & bell pepper into tiny flecks that I can add to meat loaf or spaghetti sauce, for example. I even add a couple spoonfuls to mashed potatoes which gives it a nice color and doesn't change the taste.

Some of my boys that hate veggies don't mind snacking on a plate of raw cut veggies if I add a small dish of ranch dressing or salsa for dipping. I never push, just set the plate out while they're playing video games or whatever.

Well, you can't give a 10-year-old facts about what will happen to him if he eats his vegetables, most likely. They're not cognitively aware enough yet to realy grasp all that. But...I'd assume since a lot of vegetables, especially dark leafy greens, have antioxidants, not eating vegetables will shorten his life. I know that sounds extreme but antioxidants help prevent cell death. But truth be told, I'm not an expert on vegetables so I don't know the whole answer to this question. My cousin was one of those children who didn't ever eat vegetables and she became obese. Now she's 18 and a freshman in college. In HS she became a vegetarian! Hehe :) And she's beautiful and healthy! Hopefully your child will grow out of it.

Our bodies still have not changed (the way we process food) since we began. If you dont eat vegetables you are not giveing the body what it needs to process other foods, like the toxins you eat in processed foods. Do keep in mind most 10 year old kids go through things. Rebeling in their own ways. Some try and stop showering (gross I know). More then likely its a stage he's going through. Just keep makeing them, and serving them. I would look up issues on how to get kids to eat their veggies. I think that would be easier. Really..more then likely a stage. Don't sweat, just remind him that athletes have to eat fruits and veggies to play their best and take it form there

I wouldn't worry too much he probably eats more than he even realizes. If he eats pizza that has tomato sauce on it. If he eats fries potatoes are plants. Lots of ice creams have little bits of fruit in it. Most american food is fortified with so many different things you could probably get some vitamin C out of cheese. One day he will get older and constipated and decide on his own to eat a salad or two. You nagging him about what he eats is only going to make things worse.

Yes, colon cancer is one of the MANY things that can happen. Weight gain, diabetes (if his diet consists of sugar and white processed foods) he will age quicker and probably get alot of pain and inflammation later in his life. If he never ate a veggie, I would bet by the time he was 25-30 he would have gout or some type of "acidic" condition. You can google "acid/alkaline diet" to read more about that. Plus, he won't be getting antioxidant protection against all the toxic chemicals in the environnment, he will be deficient in many vitamins and minerals and will probably get sick from something. Ever wonder why cancer patients sometimes go on green vegetable juice fasts...it's for a reason.
Good luck! And make meals fun...try not to yell or get mad, cuz kids tend to learn that meal time is a bad time and they get in a rut. Try and involve him in the meal creating and get him to prepare a veggie dish (like a simple salad or something that he "might" like) all by himself and maybe if he feels proud of himself (and gets alot of praise from you) he might just eat it!

Try mixing it in foods that he can't tell that there are any veggies. For example, make a smoothie or use a juicer, and mix veggies with fruit.
