It doesn't look rude if you throw a baby shower for yourself. I would hold my own shower and not invite the mil.
She sounds rude and selfish.

Talk to her and find out what happened dont get into the nastiness you dont need it at what is a special time of your life if she chooses to hold a grudge that is her problem. If she is un co operative hold your own baby shower and lose her invite...its not selfish it is not living in the past its celebrating the new life you are bringing into the world, her grandchild. No nasty words need to be spoken its not worth doing that because obviously she is going to be around you for a long time but things like well im sorry you feel that way but what happened at the time happened and i cant change it....or ok how do we move on from this so we are both happy with the result. Good luck

That was very rude of her. Not to mention, selfish. She needs to start thinking about who's she's hurting here (other than you), because eventually, it'll effect her grandchild. You have to wonder if this is going to be an ongoing thing.
I would have a party of your own, invite friends and family. Don't invite the mother in law. If she asks-say it's because she's selfish and rude, like you were being "annoying."
You're new parents. You're suppose to be happy and excited!! What does she expect?! Well, congrats!! Good luck!!

Thats so mean of your mother in law-to cancel a baby shower-how rude.Maybe you could just have a fun get together with your friends before the baby-don't call it a baby shower-just say it is a get together before baby comes.Maybe they will bring gifts for the baby--so in a way it would be like a shower.Good luck!

Doesn't she realize it's about the baby? If you have the ability and resources to put one together yourself, do it. Forget about looking selfish, think about looking like you want what's best for the child.
P.S. Don't invite Mom-In-Law for being annoying... see how she likes it.

Ask your mom or your best friend. Or you can even ask your husband to put together something and invite his friends and their wives. Like a party. Good Luck

Throwing one for yourself wouldn't make you look selfish! Hey why wait for someone to do it for you! If you don't stand up for yourself who will? Plan it out yourself and don't invite her!
