My mother has been asked to be maid of honor in an informal wedding that is a second marriage for the bride and the third for the groom. The bride is wearing an Alex Evenings dress; the skirt is flowy layers that fall a few inches above her ankle. She told my mom to just wear whatever she wants. My mother is wondering if she can wear a floor length dress. It has minimal decorations and she already has it.
Would it look odd for the maid of honor's dress to be slightly longer than the bride's dress?

This is a very informal wedding. They are planning it in a month. They are marrying at the courthouse and having a low-key dinner (fried chicken, etc.) at a local community center afterwards. The couple getting married are in their 60s.

honey tell mom to wear her long dress, the bride won't mind at all she told mom to wear what she wants. and for being longer than brides dress. i don't think that will bother the bride either. tell mom to go and have fun. as long as moms comfortable in what she's wearing they'll all have a ball. weddings are different now a days.

If it is an informal wedding then she should really be wearing a knee length dress instead of floor length. There is no reason for your mom to go all out with her attire, especially since it is super informal. A nice cocktail dress will be just fine.

I'd ask the bride, since she is going to be her maid of honor they must be good friends, therefore she can feel open to ask her what she thinks about the legnth of the dress she wears for the wedding.

It depends on when the wedding is taking place. In the evening or during the day. A day wedding is more casual. Evening is floor length. MAKE SURE THE DRESS MATCHES THE WEDDING COLOR AND STYLE!!!

the least complicated element i'm able to think of of is to hem all the different clothing to experience hers. yet another decision could be to ask the photographer to no longer photgraph the bridesmaids under the knee. you are able to attempt pitching a royal greater healthful on the bridal shop, and/or calling the producer to be sure if there is something they are able to do. a pair of issues to elevate to them is that the shopper is often precise, and the measurements have been given previously the order.

If your mom feels comfortable in the dress she should wear it.

Personally, I'd wonder who was the bride.
So, yes, it would look odd.
