They will be two indiviuals so give them individual sounding names.
I agree that they are nice names, but not for twins.
But, it's your friend and those girls who have to live with them.

I think it is really cute. I love that she wants to call them Tay and Jay!

Jayla is a really cute name. Taylor is too but it seems to be coming more common. I see that some people suggested Jade. Please do not suggest that to your friend. Seriously. Every child under the age of 5 is now named Jade or Jaden or Jayden or some form of that. I have stated that here before. There are like 10 kids on our street all with a variation of that name. It is like back in 98 when every little boy in our neighborhood was named Tyler. There were three just in our 8-plex apartment building!! There were more in the area. Plus I had two friends with kids that name and then my sis-in-law named her second child Tyler!! Sheesh! Now the hot name is Jade or Jayden.

I say let her stick with Jayla and Taylor. Those are adorable.

They are both very pretty names, but I immediately said "Jaylor" in my head. People may tend to say something like that when they say the name Jayla, it's so similar to Taylor. People will want to finish off Jayla to make it sound like Taylor, not on purpose, just tell your friend to be prepared for it.

I know alot of Taylor's, therefor, not a fan. There are a couple little girls in my daughter's class named Taylor and they are ROTTEN!!
As for Jayla...Sounds made up and I don't care for it. It's almost a mouthful. Sorry, but you asked. ;)
My friend's daughter is Joryn, Jory for short and it's hard to say and everytime she tells someone her name, they either pronounce it wrong or say, "Excuse me?" It's a mouthful...and Jayla reminds me of that.
Tell your friend congrats on her babies and good luck with the names.

To me, Jayla sounds masculine and Taylor sounds conceited. Tay and Jay sound kind of trashy and unfeminine to me. I do agree with those previous posters...Jade is gorgeous. Jaeda is beautiful, as well. Instead of Taylor, maybe Tira? (Prounounced TEE-ruh) or Tiana (Tee-AH-nuh)? So, Jade and Tiana or Jaeda and Tira for my suggestions.

Jayla is pretty, Taylor is tooooooooooo common! maybe keep Jayla, but change taylor to... Jenna, Talia, Tessa, Jaeda or Jaeden, Tarah, Tyla.... us a T or J if she likes those initials, and be unique!

I think those are great names. The fact that they share almost the same letters connect them in a way. My wife and I have triplets and believe me, coming up with names was one tricky thing to figure out. We've had a great experience so far... they're 8 months old now... and we're trying to share some of what we've learned with other moms expecting multiples. Please take a look at our site http://www.mostlymultiples, as it might help you out. And if there's any other info we can share, or if you have advice you can give to other moms expecting twins, please send it in!

Jayla is okay but Taylor isn't my favorite. I think if she's going to name one Jayla, she'll need another girly name to go along with it and Taylor just isn't very girly. How about:

Jayla & Jillian
Jayla & Taryn
Jayla & Madelyn
Jayla & Rachel
