Yes. All the time. What's so wrong about speakin in spanish anyways? My family understands english very well......they need to to work and things but when we are as a family we speak spanish. Personally I think it's racism or something like that since what is going on in this counrty. Seriously. I mean I never see anyone tell that to someone who is speaking some other language. I know that english is the language you need to know but really, they want us to start acting like americans and doing things their own way too? I know it's America but it's the land of the free people not the land of english-speakers only land.

I speak Spanish, but I personally have never had anyone say that to me before. I have heard the argument many times though. I could maybe understand someone getting angry if a person came to this country speaking little or no English and expecting to never learn English and be okay. If I speak fluent English along with my foreign language though, what's the problem? I don't see why people get angry when others speak a foreign language to family or friends. As long as I can speak English and do when with others I don't know, I don't see why it matters. To many, speaking their native tongue to family and friends is a way to preserve their culture.

Yeah!!!! It happened to me also!!! I mean, come on i'm hispanic and if i'm talking to my own people then it's my bussiness wether i speak Spanish or not!!! Now if I'm speaking to People that don't share my language then that's when I speak English!!! People should just stop being nozy and stop eaves dropping into others conversations!!!! Maybe we should make all the tourists visiting Latin America and Spain; talk Spanish after all they're not in the U.S!!!!

Let's see how they feel!!!!!!

People are so stupid!

I am American but bilingual, equally fluent in both languages... in fact, I'm a Spanish teacher, and one Sat. morning last winter at a wrestling tournament in my school, I was working the cash register at the concessions stand when one of my students came through the line. I usually talk to my students in Spanish--if I don't, who will? People from my school that know me don't think it's a big deal, but there was a lady from a different school in the line behind my student, and when she got to me, she started to curse: "God****! You're in the USA, speak English!" I explained to her, hey, I'm the Spanish teacher, that was one of my students but she was still so rude. Behind HER in line were a few other students of mine, and they just couldn't believe her attitude and behavior!!

I reiterate: people are so stupid!!

Yes, it has happened to me. Personally I am bilingual, but I was talking to a spanish couple at the place I work, and some rude person came up and was like "Now even the white people are speakin' s***" I was extremely offended, and so were the couple I was talking to. It's so rude when people do that.

I dont speak spanish, but i do speak Portuguese (Portugual) which is somewhat similar. yes people have said that to my family before. They dont take into consideration that english is one of the hardest languages to learn!!! Some people are just ignorant, all we can do is ignore them and keep our heads up high.

If you are talking amongst yourselves you can speak in any language you want, there are Americans living in Mexico and they speak in English amongst themselves and nobody gives them any crap as the Americans do, I guess we are more secure of our national identity and heritage and don´t go whining about because somebody was speaking in other language than ours. That happened to me once I just told him "f*ck off I am a tourist I don´t have to do s*ht" and he just ran away so...
