Oi, that's a loaded question, and I have to agree that it completely depends on what subject you're looking at this from:

Economically - good

To the business owners who increase revenue - good

To all the workers that get to keep their jobs because of increased revenue - good

To all the girls that get eating disorders because the ads give them a distorted idea of what beauty is - bad

To the kids and grown ups who actually think happiness can be found in stuff - bad

I don't know, it's a win loose thing here. I don't think we should ever completely stop advertising, but do us advertisers (yes I'm one of them) need to be careful and tasteful about what we are presenting? - oh yes! That's where vast improvements can be made.

I think it does more good. For the fact that its increasing your brand recognition which is a great thing because when people go out shopping they will see your product and say "oh thats the product i saw in the magazine its suppost to be really cool" or whatever. ya know. So I think its a great thing. However, too much advertisement is a bad thing because consumers might think that since you have to advertise your product so much it might be defective or low quality and you are just trying to push people to buy it. It could be a real turn off. But in the long run if you do it correctly..it will do a lot of good for your company..FOR SURE!
