What do people smoke out of a hookah?

I always thought it was marijuana, but I just read something that indicated it was a form tobacco. Info, please?

I guess the real question is: when you go to a hookah bar, what are you smoking?

you can smoke weed out of a hookah but generally it is tobacco mixed with dried fruit or a sweetener such as honey or molasses. you can also smoke opium and hash.

You can smoke anything out of a hookah that you can smoke any other way. Depending on where you are and what kind of people you hang out with if you see someone smoking a hookah it is probably tobacco (usually flavored) or marijuana.

Hookah is an Indian pipe if you will.
Traditionally, it was used to smoke tobacco, and ganja (marijuana). It had burning coal and smoke you inhale goes through water and steam. So you could use anything in it.
I have been to bars where it had just fruit flavors. But, I guess you could smoke all kinds of stuff.

In most hookah around people smoke fancy middle eastern tobacco that is soaked in wine or something with a little piece of charcoal to keep it lit.. unless of course you're somewhere where marijuana is legal or tolerated, people do that in the privacy of their own homes anyway, using the buds or hashish.

Most people smoke flavored tobacco. but if seen a Lot more smoked out of it.

Most of the middle east they use fruit flavored tobacco. Marijuana and hashish are proscribed by the Koran...not that they don't smoke it, just not openly.
