Depends on your lifestyle. Do you have a set schedule. Are you away from home more than 8 or 9 hours a day? If so, you don't want a dog! Well an inside dog anyway.

Dogs require a lot of time and effort. Cats on the other hand, are a little more self sustaining. They take care of themselves. If you want a little more hands free pet, get a cat.

What ever you do decide to get, please spay or neuter and vaccinate your pets.

My preference is Dogs but it all depends on you. If you're home a lot, have time to spend with the dog, & have the room then a dog. But if you're not home much & want a pet that you don't have to train, get a cat.

That depends on alot of issues, time, money, energy and patients.
If you go away alot or work alot of hours then you need a cat, fresh food, water, clean liter pan, and a few cat toys and they are good to go. Cats are usually great companions, easier to take care of and less expensive to raise.
If you have alot of time and energy that you can spend on a dog, and get it all its shots and lic. then a dog may be what you need.
If this is your first time as a pet owner, you may want to talk to your local vet. clinic and get some info on both pets before deciding.

If you want a pet that is happy being left alone and can entertain itself anf be happy, get a cat. If you want a pet that needs lots of attention and interaction with people, get a dog. If you want the best lap dog in the world and one that will steal your heart away, get a Chihuahua.

That depends. Do you want a pet that loves you unconditionally? Do you want a pet that comes running every time you come home? Do you want a pet that is happiest when you are petting him/her? If so, get a dog. Do you want a self-sufficient pet? Do you want a pet that comes to you when s/he wants to? Do you want a pet that does silly things and can make you smile, but not on command? If so, get a cat.

If you are not especially energetic a cat is ideal. They don't require walking or bathing, but they do need lots of love and attention.
A dog will require bathing, walking, educating, love and attention etc...
Why not have both?
