My kids' father died in july - he was 42. his second wife of two years is now 32. she had the gravestone engraved with her name on it which really upset my boys (16 & 18). Just because she was his wife at the time of his death it's ok for this? It seems the odds are she will remarry and have a family of her own (they didn't have any children together) - why would she take this FAMILY PLOT (1 of 4 - his grandparents are buried there as well) for herself when she is only 32, they were only married 2 years? Am I being unreasonable thinking this is odd?

I left him 6 years ago, I've detached. My children are 16 & 18 year old boys and none of us understand why she would put her name there being she is young and will most likely remarry, she's already moved out of state.

I talked to her about this yesterday via email. She said that they made a promise to be buried next to each other. I told her I'm sure when they had that discussion they were both thinking they'd spend the rest of their lives together not that he'd die at 42! Does this change anyone's opinion?

While it is strange do not worry about it. Since you are divorced you do not want to be buried there and your boys will most likely want to be buried by their wives unless they should die before they get married and that is not likely to happen.•

hmmm...that's a tough one. My grandparents had a double headstone but they were married 50 years. Maybe she just wasn't thinking at the time because she was in grief? This isn't much help, but I wonder what she'll do if she does get remarried....

You're not unreasonable. It seems like she would have at least asked the boys for their opinions. Maybe it's a vindictive move on her part. If you 2 did not see eye to eye, well, you know the rest of the story.

No you are not unreasonable, she should not have bought a double headstone. But don't worry, when she remarries and her name changes, she will have no ties to her late husbands plot. When both of your sons are of age, they can have the headstone changed, because they will be his only heirs.

I feel for your boys. She should not have done that. When she remarry's as I am sure se will, buy a new headstone and have her's destoryed.

I think this gal is dead wrong. It it happened to me I would be furious. You and your sons have every right in the world to be upset. Do you think perhaps she did this out of spite? It's wrong, any way you look at it. I am sorry for you.
