My wife thinks you can shoot as many as you want on private property, and the law is governed by the state. I said that anyone that shoots a deer, no matter where it is shot, must tag the deer because each county has different laws regarding how many deer you may shoot. Please send sources, preferably from an official Texas website or guide about hunting laws!

The number of Whitetail deer which may be shot in a hunting season differs from county to county. BUt overall the most which can be shot in one year is 5. Most counties it is 4(2 bucks and 2 antlerless) The high fence has no bearing at all on the numbers. The deer is considered a Texas game animal and is subject to the restrictions set down by the Texas Pars and wildlife department. The only thing which is wide open is exotic game animals such as sika, fallow, axis, and blackbuck. To determine the number you can for where you hunt is given to you in the handbook when you buy your license and can be found when you go to TPWD's web site.

You are both right, in a sense. It has been a few years since I lived in Texas but the Fish and Game dept. (which is where you will find the info) does a census of the deer population and determines the bag limits. It varies from county to county. You have some that are one buck counties up to five buck counties. She's correct, if the property has a high fence then the game is also property of the land owner and can be harvested at any time.

It depends on which county you live in as to what your yearly bag limit is. you can find out by going to www.tpwd.state.tx.us
This is the website for Texas Parks and Wildlife.
On this website you can get all the information you need and be able to contact your local Game Warden who can answer all your questions.
