it really depends on where you live and what you are around. I suggest telling her that you are very proud and would like her to give you suggestions of things she may want, or want to do. This way you will not loose. 13 year old girls are all different in what they think they need, and if you ask her then she will answer this question better than anyone else. good luck.

When I was 13 - and admittedly, I was rather a dorky 13 so your mileage may vary - the best reward my mom could give me was undivided time and attention. It was such a treat when she and I would go out and just get cokes and sit and chat for a while, or even go for a walk ... honestly I don't know if she even realized how much that meant to me at the time but it really, truly made me feel special =)

Alternatively, another thing I always -loved- was when my mom or someone got me a book that -they- had read and loved, and thought that I would enjoy as well. There was something special about that, it made me feel connected to that person to think that they knew me well enough to know what I might like to read, and that they'd gone out of their way to -get- that book for me. It's been maaany years now since I was 13 yet I still have my copy of Jonanthan Livingston Seagull my mom had gotten me, along with several others =)

Well, good luck no matter what you decide to do, I think it's wonderful that you want your stepdaughter to know she's appreciated like that =)

Your time, your kind attention, your understanding are all good gifts, you sound like the dream stepmom. I wish others would use you as an example.

Hard to answer this without knowing her and what her passions are. How about offering to help her redecorate her room that she uses when she is there to her own design? Bikes, books, dolls, who knows what she is "into", but use that as a hint to give her something that she would appreciate.

Also, sitting down and composing a nice letter, telling her in handwriting of your regard and esteem for her, along with some gentle advice and philosophical concepts. While a teenager might not put much stock in that right now, I bet she saves it and re-reads it in years to come.

Being relatively close to 13, I know that what always made me happy, was when my Mom and Dad gave me little suprises. For example, my favorite one is when my Mom would put a note in my locker. maybe it would say, "I love you and I'm so proud of you for...(fill in the blank), I want to treat you by going to the mall for some shopping!! :) Love you lots! Mom. Even if we werent going shopping, the fact that my Mom was proud of me, or that she was taking the time to write me a note and come over to school to give it to me, was the best feeling I could get. Another, would be when my Dad would come pick me up and he would have a Starbucks coffee. She might not like coffee, but I know that if my parents ever gave me something that I really loved but didnt have all the time, I appreciated it all the more! :)

I think the coolest gift is music! If she's that kind of person anyway. I'm 13 too and I love getting more music! Can never have enough of that stuff. You could also reward her by taking her out like do something special that you usually don't do. Like ice-skating or something!

Could always try a coupon booklet. Just don't get carried away. Put some things in there like a night out, movie with friends, free time, get out of a chore etc... This way she would have a reminder down the road of how much you care and want her to know.

give her another privilege like say her phone time is when she gets home from school to 8 pm then bump it up to 9. or say she has a curfew let her stay out a little longer if she wants to. it always worked with me trust me that's enough of a reward.

TIME.... take her out to do something fun... just the two of you and tell her how special she is to you. You might take her out to a fancy restaurant, dress up and just be gals out on the town... at a 13 yr old level of course. Or take her to a concert of a group she especially likes. She is likely to be thinking of wearing make-up now, if she doesn't already. Have a Mary Kay dealer do a party for her, and let her invite her friends. They get a nice facial treatment and get samples to make themselves up..... with guidance from a lady who will teach them to wear it modestly and accent their lovely features. Serve refreshments.

I miss those times when my daughters were young.....

Nothin' beats a day of beauty and pampering. go get a massage together and then a facial maybe a manicure and/or pedicure and then do lunch and a movie.
