The only way to not cut it all at once it to just keep getting it trimmed every six weeks. Or you could trim it more often, like every two weeks

Consult a beautician for the best way to maintain beautiful hair while transitioning from chemical to natural. It's really the best way to go. Being half black should not have any bearing on your hair. You could blow-dry it straight or (God forbid) use a hot comb.
The alternative is to visit a Sally's beauty supply store and ask the ladies that work there what would be best for hair in transition. The employees that work in those stores are licensed or in the process of becoming licensed. I use great products that give the appearance that I perm my hair. However, I use them under the advisement of my hairdresser.

Good luck

You don't Have to get perms just because you are part black. I am black and with thick and curly hair that is natural and also happens to be easy to comb, brush and style because I take care of it and use the correct products on my scalp and hair. Although my texture is not "silky-silky", it's close enough whenever I use heat and I've grown to love my hair, especially it's texture. Like you, many women have transitioned to natural hair. So it will not break, keep it well conditioned and well moisturized: This is vital. Get it trimmed every 3-4 months and be patient...with each trim you'll have new growth of natural hair and less of the chemical treated hair until the relaxed hair is all gone.

You don't have to cut your hair off. I am growing my hair out too. I stopped getting relaxers in January and now I just go and get it washed and conditioned. My hairstylist uses a straightening iron and I keep it wrapped during the week. I also get it trimmed every 4 weeks. There are a lot of things you can do while it grows out. I wouldn't recommended micros or any other tight braids because they really break your hair. My hair is almost grown out now and I am excited. Good luck!

You don't "have" to relax your hair. I understand what you are saying ands there are some alternatives to just chopping your hair off. You can wear transition style like braids, kinky twists, braid out and straw sets. Once you let the relaxer grow out you will notice you have more healthy hair and it will appear that your hair is growing faster but it will just be the fact that your hair is not damaged. Just put nappy hair into the search engine of yahoo groups. They have been a big help to me while growing my dreads. Good luck.

if you go to a beauty supply store ask the clerk if they sell hair relaxers its a chemical it does kind of the same thing a perm does except it makes it straight again instead of curly then use a moisturizing conditioner or something to make your hair soft again

Get a hair straightener. It is time consuming, but worth it. IF you want to spend alot of $, a salon can permanetly straighten your hair.
