Dentists are bound by confidentiality laws and will usually not share this kind of information.

State laws govern some situations, but most dentists will follow their own ethics. They are going to hate like heck that you smoke because it will ruin your teeth and eventually kill you. But unless they see an immediate danger, they will probably not involve your parents - just give you a big lecture! Listen, please.

Dentists are obligated to report suspected abuse or negligence on the part of parents. Other than that, confidentiality applies.

no...probably not. if you buy any kind of whitening stips that should hide it. i think they run the lowest cost at $30...i buy rembrandt and its $85, its like a year supply and works like a charm. people comment on how white my teeth are all the time...and then they ask if i smoke...and im like...of course! i just take care of myself. how about you? and then their teeth are yucky yellow and i make them feel bad...lol

THE SMOKER'S BREATH ALONE TELLS A DENTIST HIS PATIENT IS A SMOKER. THE SMOKER CAN HIDE THIS FACT, BUT IT'S OBVIOUS TO THE DENTIST.
HOW THE DENTIST DECIDES TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION VARIES FROM DOCTOR TO DOCTOR.

Technically, we should. But I usually don't. I do, however, give underage smokers a very, very stern warning and try to scare them with stories of gruesome surgeries where smokers have had parts of their faces removed because of oral cancer.
