You are having these symptoms because your liver is decompensating; in other words, it is not able to perform the most basic functions to process your food & medicines. The liver is a very tough organ and will function with little indication that it is damaged until it is so scarred that blood cannot effectively pass through it. This happens when it is functioning at less than 10% of it's capability. That is what is happening to you now. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but at this point a transplant is most likely your only option ( BUT- I'm not a doctor!). I hope you are seeing a hepatologist or gastroenterologist. If not, you need to get to one ASAP because any other doctor is not trained to give you the answers you need. I know several people who have had transplants, and all of them are doing great! If the ascites is due to alcohol, then you will have to attend a group such as AA for 6 months before they will allow you to be on a transplant list. Livers are very hard to get, they want to make sure if you get one, you'll take care of it. Best wishes to you.

RE:
Is chronic ascites with cirrhosis a fatal disease? Is there no cure except transplant?
Is a diagnosis of ascites a year ago a death sentence? There have been nine large volume paracenties. The doctor won't or can't answer a simple question. Is this fatal?

I agree, you should seek a second opinion right away, don't fool around with this. My mother had the same condition, hers was due to alcoholism, her condition was so severe that she developed jaundice and nerve damage, her abdomen was severely inflated and they had to put the IV in her jugular vein, and over 20yrs later she is doing fine. I am not implying that your condition is due to a drinking problem, I'm just trying to show that if my mother can survive this at the late stages they caught it and she never needed a liver transplant even though you might have to have one, do everything the doctors tell you to do, STAY AWAY FROM SALT AND ONIONS, GREASY FOODS, ok? there is hope for you.....My best wishes.

Once the liver has cirrhosis, no treatment can make it go away but diagnosing the cause may slow down the effects of cirrhosis. Various doctors and health experts advise patients to follow a healthy diet, limiting the consumption of alcohol and drinking lots of water.
In 2 year agos, my friend found many ways to treat his liver disease so he found a web and admit it,he know the natural measures to have effective treatment. you can see the web at here: http://adola.net/go/fattyliver-bible/
Best wishes for you!

It can be fatal. Transplant is the best "cure" but is better called a treatment. If you are not getting a definitive answer, get another opinion and tell the doctor that you want the answer to that specific question.

from what i can see if eating no salt wont cure the trouble then you need a transplant and thats about all that really can help, the way it is, if left with no treatment or just salt limits, you can go on for quite some time but you will never feel well but it will kill you eventually though there is no specific time limits.

Maybe the diseases are tests. Even though God apparently does not test us, according to the Bible. Except for when he does.
