I want you to imagine the ongoing life cycle of a carbon atom. Recall that carbon is either in the form of inorganic CO2, or an organic form such as surgar, protien, or fat which includes oils and fossil fuels. You are to tell a story describing the first 3 billion years of your life. Where did you start? (Note that all carbon must start as an inorganic carbon dioxide). What molecules have you been a part of (such as an organic surgar that was converted to protien in a muscle cell? What animals or plants, in the form of organic carbon, have you been joined to? Where have you be en, and how did you get there?

I'm having a bit of a hard time getting started but I was thinking about starting off with:

Once apon a time, long ago when bacteria ruled the world; One Carbon molecule stands up for his rights and freedoms as organic carbon dioxide.

Any ideas?

Hi. Yeah, I had to do one of those on a dust particle. Tongue in cheek did not impress the nuns! You could start out with the CO2 dissolved in the ocean, absorbed by some blue-green algae, eaten by a trilobite, fossilized for many millions of years (where you cousin, C14, was lost alas), handled by by an archaeologist, etc.
