I'm planning a wedding for this time next year, and I want it to be inside, I live in maine so it's already below freezing outside. Also we aren't really religious and don't go to church so I would rather not get married in a church. Any suggestions for an indoor ceremony?

We weren't married in a church either, and instead we chose a BEAUTIFUL 1920s theatre. It was gorgeous--we're talking massive artwork and everything.

Basically find somewhere you like...a theatre, a ballroom, etc...and inquire. You'll be surprised what will happen if you ask them nicely.

An old Library or Train Station.
Historical buildings lend great ambiance. They are romantic all on their own.
Or a Museum.
Choose a site w/ a fireplace. You can use this as the backdrop for your makeshift "altar". Then you can move ppl out for the cocktail hour and have the staff transform the room for the reception (unless another room is available for this).
Hope this helps :D

The Retreat at French's Point is a FANTASTIC location for a ceremony and/or reception (http://www.rfpmaine.com/). If you wanted to stick with a more traditional location, there is a Sheraton in South Portland that can do your ceremony and your reception...

Depending on how much you want to spend, how about a nice hotel where you or the staff can set up a nice alter. I'm not familiar with Maine, but maybe a historical building.

sit down and talk it over with your celebrant. They have some great ideas. They can advise you on what works. How long to make the ceremony and the best possible way for things to run

Have the ceremony at the same location of the reception. Many reception sites are able to accommodate that somehow.

Is there a building that you think is beautiful in your town. Try that, you could always transform a room to make it what you want. Start with something with a lot of room, and then dream.
Try a really big hall, and use bright colors and bright flowers, maybe Christmas lights and beautiful fabrics to change it in to what you want.

Try to find a venue where you can have the ceremony and reception. Many hotels do this.

In Maine there may be some really cute lodge. My cousin got married in a ski lodge on top of a mountain in Alaska.... it was really awesome!
