Need ideas for something good to do for charity or in general for the community as a donation. Have saved about $300...I know the Bible says help the poor but its like charities have become thieves these days and i cant just knock on peoples doors and ask if they are poor...

Rather than give money, give some of your time as volunteer at a homeless shelter, or youth refuge, or read to the blind. The possibilities are endless.

Go to the "Head Start" program and talk to the director of the program. (It's a preschool for poor kids). Ask the director if she knows of a needy family. Then spend the $300 buying christmas gifts for the kids of the needy families that otherwise wouldn't get much.

A group I'm with did this and the families were overwhelmed with gratitude. I have another friend who very much needed help one year. All she wanted was a used bike for her son for christmas. A generous stranger gave him a brand new bike. The kid is in college now, but they still remember the bike like it happened last week.

I would contact your local Domestic Violence Shelter, and talk to the director to tell her what your intentions are. There are kids and women that are suffering right now, and I am sure that the staff would gladly give you a list of presents to get them. (I know this because I was once there!)

I also think the Head Start program is another great place to contact.

That is such a nice thing to do at this time of year, Have a Merry Christmas!

I have found World Vision to be an honest organization who helps the poor in a big way. They send the money to families and communities to help them develop ways to become independent. God bless you

Why not make up food baskets and deliver them to some needy families? This time of year is hard especially for single mothers with children.

I think toys for tots is a good program. May not be local but it does give kids a smile!
