My Dear Yankee Friend,
You are correct it is an interesting question but I am afraid my answer would not be as nearly as interesting, especially after seeing the answers you have all ready received.
I was unaware that Secession was or is against the law. Even though one of the main things solved by the War was the question from the founding fathers and Lincoln whether or not the Republic would survive. It did!
I cannot believe the answers about equality and the other nonsense but the War did end slavery with the 13 th amendment. I wonder how many people realize that the 14 th amendment was never legally ratified?
The War decided that agriculture was to be replaced by manufacturing.
The War decided how far the Union –Northerners-Yankees would go to enforce their will on others; that the rights of the citizen; the Constitution meant and mean nothing. It proved that they are willing to sacrifice the lives and properties of civilians, has anything changed?
God Bless You and The Southern People.

The biggest thing the Civil War solved was seperatism, at one time or another every state in the union had wanted to secede from the Union, when a group of states finally did, well you know what happens, another it ended the vile institution of slavery( though this was not the reason for the war, despite what others may tell you, it did end as a direct result of the war) another thing it greatly expanded Presidential power. It hurried the industrialization of the United States, and revolutionized warfare, but these are only a few of the results, wish i could tell you more.
And you will notice in 1859 we said the United States are, in 1870
we said the United States is, makes one think.

I used to think that the Civil War had brought our nation back together. I'm a southerner and proud of it. I have never believed in slavery, and did not personally benefit from it. I have ancestors who fought for the Confederacy, but were not wealthy slave owners, most soldiers were not. When growing up I always believed that it was God's will that the United States stayed together. Most non-southerners think that the Civil War was only about slavery. Southerners resented and still do resent the attitude that most Yankees have. That's the attitude that all southerners are uneducated, that if we believe in Jesus Christ then we must really be ignorant, and of course everyone knows that all southerners are racist, right? Well, I have news for you, we are not. The north had just as many racist in the Union army, and did not come down south to free slaves. Their attitude, just as it is today, was to come down south one weekend and put us in our place. It took 4 long, bloody years and much destruction on both sides to end that war. Since then the U.S. has become "diversified" and this is supposed to be good for our nation. Sadly, this country is falling apart, and will soon self- destruct in the name of diversity. Many people coming to this country today will never really be "Americans", They have no loyalty to America. They want to be what they were, not united and loyal citizens. They bring their dumb culture, and violent ways over here, slowly taking us over from within. This country is going to fall because of this. The Great Civil War was between Americans, what comes next, is from foreigners. In the over-all scheme of things it is not going to much matter what was accomplished in the Civil War. So Yankees, don't be so arrogant, sadly, there are a lot of Northern soldiers buried down here.

it somewhat is complicated. What precisely do you recommend via ''what do wars remedy.'' If we in no way revolted against Britain and had the yank Revolution (a war...a substantial war) might we be the total-international superpower that we are immediately? replaced into it mandatory for us to combat that war, and did it remedy something? YEAH, lots of stuff. on the different hand, replaced into it mandatory for us to combat in Vietnam, or have international war I? yet however, there is likewise international war II...yet wait, wasn't that mandatory besides, and did no longer we remedy some issues via putting an end to that undesirable Hitler? the alternative is as much as you...are wars mandatory, and do they remedy something?

Up until the civil war the people really did think of their identity as being based on the state in which they lived.... South and North. After the war the idea of being American first took root.

The Civil War solved one of the greatest contradictions to our constitution - the premise that all men are created equal.
This is not "nothing" - it is the foundation of a free and just society.
In a much less important vein, it also solved the question of a state's right to secede from the Union.

Certainly, things covered in the 13th, 14, and 15th amendments. It also added an amendment in blood, making secession unconstitional.
