Ive heard stories of soliders walking out with $20,000+ dollars. Is this true and does any one know the actual amount?

Okay once you are in country you will no longer pay federal taxes on your pay. As long as you are in the country at least one day of any given month, you will receive the non taxable status. The second increase you will see is hazardous duty pay which is $250 a month. So if you are an e-4 with over 3 years, you could bring home about $1800-1900 per month. If you are there a year and you only spend $400 per month, you could save $18,000. Also another way guys come home alot of money is reenlisting while over there. If you sign you reenlistment while over there, it will not be taxed either.
Hope this helps!!

My son is in Iraq right now in 4th Infantry Division. He returns later this month. I do not know what he got but he did not get a large sum or bonus. Instead they upped his pay to deployment wages. He is an officer though so I am not sure if it is the same for those recently enlisted. I know there is a high Bonus or sign up bonus for those getting in active duty.
Are you Army or ?

I also believe it depends on if you are in combat field. The pay is different depending on the field you are in.

Good Luck and God Bless

The are just stories. I really don't see how anyone MAKES money on a deployment. My husband is gone 6 months out of the years. The ONLY extra pay he gets is $250 for Hazard pay (and you only get that if you are deployed to certain areas) and $250 for family separation. Of course, bills still have to be paid and Food still has to bought for us here and he spends money there. We usually see NOTHING extra when he goes. I suppose if you are on a 12-18 month deployment you might get a slight bit extrabut for a person with a family, deployment is not a money maker!

no one makes $1800 a month deploying to iraq. my husband has been in for 14 years and has been deployed twice to iraq.

we got BAS and single soldiers will get this too. $272.26
Save Pay $100
HFP/IDP $225
FSH $250 (family separation)
TDY Pay $3.50 each day deployed after you get back and file your travel voucher

plus your whole paycheck is tax free...that's at least $100 depending on your base pay. if you reenlist in iraq and qualify for a bonus, it will be tax free as well.

you can put the extra money you earn in a separate savings account that way you won't be tempted to spend it all and come to depend on it.

if you saved, very likely, it also somewhat depends if you have dependants, you will get more that way...mabe ask someone in your unit thats been there.. thats what my husband did when he was supposed to go to afganistan.ignore what the first guy said..weather you were ordered or volunteered you do what you gotta do and make it home safe good luck and god bless.edit... i did forget to mention overseas pay..that can be a big chunk of change when you get it..

It's 1.5 increase for a sergeant (depends on your rank), and you don't have to pay taxes for the time spent there. Room and Board is, of'course, free.
