Down south, Thanksgiving is a big family tradition so we always have the same menu each year & it's something we look forward to. Of course there is turkey, ham mashed potatoes, gravy, southern cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, peas, fried corn, brocolli casserole, squash casserole, cole slaw, deviled eggs, and of course cranberry sauce. For dessert, there is pumpkin pie, pecan pie, chocolate cake & usually a couple more yummy treats!. After a little football, it's time to decorate the Christmas tree!!

Since Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and be "thankful" for the year's bounty, make it something you like and enjoy. I've used rolled turkey breast roasts before which is quick and easy and much more tasty than the usual dried out turkey. I've also used cornish hens, one for each person, and stuffed them with my favorite dressing. I don't like sweet potatoes or yams, so we skip it, I've used corn on the cob, mixed california blend veggies (broccoli, cauliflour & carrots) steamed with real butter and tossed with parmesan cheese, and home made bread. I also like green beans & bacon rather than the "green bean casserole". I've also made tempura batter fried veggies before...whatever I had on hand I used. my favorite veggies to fry are cauliflour, whole green beans, & okra. I happen to like cranberry sauce, but my kids don't so we use cherry or strawberry jello as a side dish as well.

Last year I went to S.Carolina for T'Day from Turkey eatin California. We had a SeaFood Boil, from Shrimps to Lobster and somethings I don't know, but it was good, from what I can remember of it, hhmmm I do remember getting on a plane and a pretty blonde lady ask if I'd like a cocktail...hmmm. Boy I sure hope that was my friends house.
