There is the possibility of danger on any subway line or station, in New York City. NYC is a big city, there is always the possiblity of danger. It's a fact of life of living in the Big Apple. Keep your eyes open. If you are not familiar with a neighborhood, DON'T GO ALONE! Book as many tours as you can, it will keep you with a group. Don't wander around late at night. Make sure everyone traveling with you knows how and where to get back to your hotel, in case you decide to go different directions.
If you don't know where you are going, go back to your hotel. Always keep enough money for a taxi and know the NAME of your hotel and the EXACT address of the hotel, so a driver taxi can driver can take you back if you get lost. These are not the "mean streets" of NYC in the '70s. Keep your eyes and ears open. Most New Yorkers are friendly and can give you directions, if you are on foot and are lost. Don't hang out late at night in bars . . . too dangerous for women alone.

In an old report before the yuppies yuppified that area, the Myrtle-Willoughby Station on the "G" line (light green) was said to be the worst system because of the high rate of crime and vandalism for its size.
It has since been cleaned up. There's a bunch of not-so-great sections of the train. The A and C come to mind in East New York.

stay far off from THE SUBWAYS throughout HOURS!! or you would be apologetic approximately it. The 4,5,6 are the busiest subway traces and that they are VERY crowded throughout rush hour. all the different traces are too yet no longer as crowded as those 3 trains. whilst it is not rush hour the subways are merely like a million/2 finished.
