Police don't have the right to catch criminals, they have the responsibility within the framework of the US constitution. The US is the only democracy where the Exclusionary Rule voids evidence which was seized unlawfully. I believe that professional officers will almost always win over the actions of criminals. For the police, we have many more tools today than we did in the late 70's. DNA, in-car computers, video are but a few of the advances. Recent court decisions have continued to give more needed power to the police. To answer your question, I believe that it is balanced for the first time...

I really don't think catching the criminals is the issue. It is enforcement once the ones that are caught are presented to a judge. When you have someone 18-years old selling drugs and they are sentenced to 5-years and they are out in 1 year, what is one year in the life of an 18-year old when he can make more money on the street in one day than he can sweating it out in a factory for a week? I always thought the idea of punishment was supposed to be a deterrent from doing the crime in the first place. Evidently I was mislead.

The criminals already have a ton of loopholes to jump through. If you want to see bad people behind bars give the police more rights.

The people should have more opportuinities to live they way they desire.

When fairness and opportuinity present themselves, then the police are needed less and less.
