The death sentence has long been debated, but in my opinion, if one takes another's life, they should be put to death as well.

Death sentence is the most fair and just punishment within reasonable means.
It is true that some crime commited were extremely horrific and inhumane. But we as a society, will only go so far to punish the criminal. To terminate their life will signify the termination of the punishment.
To the victim and the family, there may be better way to "revenge" get justice. But in the humane society, we will curb the punishment to just death.

As punishment I think a death sentence probably offers a means to escape a lifetime of monotony for the accused. Better that they were isolated from human contact, locked in a windowless room and kept alive and imprisoned for as long as medical science permits, no mail, no visitors, no tv or radio, just 4 white walls a stool a bed and a toilet. On the other hand a death sentence offers ultimate protection for the rest of society absolutely preventing the individual from ever causing harm again. Justice and vengence are almost impossible to provide in this life. Legally you couldn't go out and rape and kill the guys sister if he did yours and it wouldn't affect most sociopaths if you did.

If you believe in the bible(which I don't, so I am free to kill whomever I like) Then no. The commandments say "Thou shalt not kill" PERIOD, not "thou shalt not kill, unless..." I know about the eye for an eye thing too, but it does not apply to mortal sins. So if you are a right wing conservative christian and support the death penalty, you've got a moral dilemma.

I think there are times when the death penalty is the more humane thing to do both for the criminal and the victim's families. God can exact Vengeance when the criminal stands before him for judgement.

Death sentences aren't just a punishment.
They are also the protection of the others living around a depraved murderous human.
Why should I have to clothe, feed, bathe, and otherwise provide the plesures of living to such a person who kills others on purpose for fun?

OF COURSE. Not only do I think those who rape and kill small children should die,
I think they also deserve a hundred lashes and a good hanging and disembowelment.
Is this vengeance? so what? It's what they deserve and they need to be rid of our society for the better of all.
How could you possibly disagree? too much sympathy for the devil is the liberal's downfall.
people throughout history were put to death for the most trivial of offenses, and TORTURED, brutal deaths too.
now we treat those who TRULY DESERVE THESE PUNISHMENTS CARRIED OUT IN THE PAST with kid gloves.
Does that needle hurt as we put you down like a mad dog? GOOD.

The death penalty is punishment. Just?...Fair?,,,it would depend upon the individual case. Although, I can't believe that strapping down a healthy human being and purposely killing them is a natural thing.

No human has the right to take the life of another human.
The death sentence forgets that the law can bever be 100% sure so feel for the innocent who have been murdered in a so-called death sentence.

The Commandment is "Thou shalt not kill"
I do feel safer when somebody suspected of murder is shut away. But there are too many cases that go to show that we are often mistaken in our judging.
Condemning somebody to death is very risky.
