I have a pair of Bose 201 and 301 speakers on my old stereo receiver. How could I incorporate these speakers into a home theater set up. What else do I need to buy and is it worth it or am I better off buying a packaged system? Thanks.

If you are going to buy a new system stick with Bose systems! They are still the best. But I would suggest getting a new receiver. I would say go check out an electronics store and asked to see some that are THX certified. This way you know you are getting the good stuff.

you can purchase a THX certified receiver. ("a THX engineer to come and certify your room. " is only if you want your whole system and room certified!) As for Bose making THX certified speakers they don't. however I still think they make the best quality speakers!

Those speakers are actually pretty good.Put the 301s up front and the 201s in back. All you really need to find is a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. Bose doesn't make a center channel that goes with them, so find a store that sells the current 301s and match up a center channel of some other brand that seems to work together. This is called experimenting. Same thing with the subwoofer. Let your ears be the final judge.

It doesn't matter which Surround Sound reciever you get, they will still sound like crap if you are hooking up the Bose 201s and 301s. Bose does have a center speaker but I wouldn't buy it either.

Get a good solid Center Channel and a Good solid Subwoofer which are the most important parts of a HT system. Those will make of for the Bose lousy performance.

Packaged systems are simple, but not usually great quality. You have great speakers and as long as you dont mind the size, you can make them into a home theater very easily. I would recoomend the 301's for the 2 fronts and the 201's for the rears since they are smaller and will not need to produce as much sound as the fronts. All you need to add is a 5 channel receiver (you can get a Yamaha for $200), a center channel speaker (the $200 Bose low-profile speaker is great), and a subwoffer.

As for the answer above, to get THX quality, you would need a THX receiver, THX speakers (which Bose does not make), THX wire, and a THX engineer to come and certify your room.

Just get a good Onkyo or Yamaha receiver with the
features that you want and that you can afford. If
after you get the receiver and the Bose speakers
don't work for you, then get a better home theater
speaker system. A coupld of examples are found
at KEF.co.uk and Hsureserch.com.

A packaged (i.e. "HTIB") system is probably not the
best value, unless convenience is you priority over
sound quality.
