Mezcal usually has a worm in it. Tequila doesn't.
>>Let's not confuse him. The methods of production for both are distinct, and should not be confused. Mezcal is also exclusive to Oaxaca, and Tequila is exclusive to Jalisco. Furthermore, Tequila needs to be made exclusively from blue agave, and Mezcal utilizes seven other species of the agave plant, primarily the espadin agave.
While it is true that all Cognac is Brandy, not all Brandy is Cognac, and if someone were looking for a Cognac, recommending a Brandy would be a major faux pas. This man wants a worm - and recommending a tequila would be completely inappropriate. The Wikipedia link suggests a couple of brands, all of which should be available in the states.
Monte Alban is widely available and inexpensive. Others include Gusano Rojo, Mezcal del Maestro, Scorpion, Del Maguey Single Village. Some of these can be a little more expensive. The best thing to do would be to ask a local liquor distributor what is available in your area. A good distributor will be knowledgable about the products they carry.

Tequila NEVER contains a worm. It's not allowed under Mexican law. What you're talking about is Mezcal, a different type of liquor also made from agave cactus. Most good mezcals don't have the worm (which is really a larva). They add it to cheap ones so that US college kids can claim they "ate the worm". If your friend is going to Mexico, especially a touristy area where college kids hang out, they should have no trouble finding mezcal with the "worm". Oh, and why did you post this under the "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered" category? ------------------------ I repeat NO TEQUILA HAS EVER HAD A WORM. If you have heard otherwise, you have been misinformed. Mezcal is a type of liquor, not a brand (like thw word vodka). There are many brands of mezcal, just like any other liquor, but not all contain a "worm". Your friend will just have to ask for a mezcal with the "worm". It shouldn't be hard to find.

When we went to Tijuana and were drink Mezcal and some other products, you can have a worm with ever shot, some bars have then on the counter in tequila, or in Oaxaca, we drank the local stuff and did hot sauce chasers with the lime after, talk about burn. but once you have done 4 or 5 your mouth is numb any way, it the next day that you pay for it.
Mezcal around here in Canada cost over $35.00, in the US it is about $20.00...
