Technically, only a psychiatrist (with an MD) can prescribe medication. However, there are some exceptions to this rule.
In some states (like New Mexico and Louisiana, I think), psychologists can receive additional training to have prescription privileges. This was enacted to address the shortage of psychiatrists in rural and under-served areas.

No a psychologist cannot prescribe medication. Only a psychiatrist or medical doctor can prescribe. And, of course, the dentist, but I doubt dentists will prescribe mental health drugs.

Hi, Mikey. No, he/she cannot prescribe medication but they can refer you to a physician who can.
Psychologist is a Ph.D.
You need to go to M.D., D.O. There are also some RNP (nurse practitioners that can also prescribe medications.
If you feel you need medication, and are seeing a psychologist, ask for a referral.
Best wishes.

No. They are not MD's. That being said, most work with psychiatrists or other physicians who can take their recommendations and provide prescriptions.
