Yes indeed. (also, it's ADDICT, not attic.) There are many drug addicts who are quite happy. Look at smokers, alcoholics, and caffeine addicts. Quite a few of them are very happy, regardless of their addiction. Although people will try to tell you otherwise, the same is also true of illegal drugs like cocaine, heroine, LSD, and marijuana, just to name a few.

That's kind of like saying everything is good as long as you ignore the bad stuff. Drug addicts have personal reasons for their drug problems and you can not have a healthy relationship with a drug addict. They deal with pain by blocking it out with drugs and they no longer develop emotionally as they should over time. They get stuck in 'limbo'.

You can be happy at the moment with a drug addict but it's not going to last. Eventually the drugs win by destroying the person's life and if you are with a drug addict, you either have to join them or get out before it's too late.

I am certainly sure that there are people who may be, but my concern would be that you will likely become a co-dependent. It is not that you will become a user necessarily, but perhaps a victim of the person's addiction.
Then there is the emotional and pschology effect that it will likely have on you.
Then consider what the person may do to support their habit. There may be missing items, missing money and more. All of these things need to be considered as they will eventually become a problem.
Many people survive the initial challenges, but fail to maintain for any long period of time, the harsh reality of drug abuse and it's toll on others. Besides, if youwant to so them a favor, tough love is the way to go.

First of all, a person can not love you until they love themself. Do you think that a person who takes drugs loves himself? I have had quite a bit of experience in this situation and I can tell you in all honesty - you are asking for more than you are bargaining for. You may think this is the most wonderful person in the world, but believe me - he will steal from you, he will hurt your feelings, he may even physically hurt you AND your family. A drug addict cares about nothing and no one other than their drug of choice. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE SWEETIE - I am a very open-minded woman who has seen way too much in my day - trust your mother, SHE loves you.

as an ex user i think i can answer your question it takes a very strong women to go through the heck he will put you through. the lies he will tell you, the things in your house he will pawn(i once took my g/f great grandmothers wedding ring and pawnd it ) to get his drugs. then if thiers kids the dissapoinment when daddy is gone. the broken promises to you and the kids it is not an easy life for him or you. i sent many a women runing in my drug days because they couldn't watch me destroy myself, and that is what i was doing. i'm glad my kids never got to see me like that i'm a diffrent man now and yes he can change, get clean but can you wait for him to do it. can you sit at home wondering were he is what he is doing the drugy lifestyle is not one a remember with fondness but the things i have said here are just the tip of the iceburg if you choose to stay with him your in for more pain than anyone should bare.

I don't believe you can know who you really are, what you really want, and where you are really going as an addict. So, are you happy or are you masking feelings really? How would you know if you did not know the real you? Drugs alter the mind, and lead to irrational decisions.

If you get help. there are good programs out there. I have been clean/sober for 10 years. Somedays it is a struggle--but when I live each day "letting go" and trusting a higher power, I am serene.

but it is for those who want it--not those who need it.

the sturdy thief, its a french/algerian action picture with Nick Nolte. he's a heroin addict and there's a scene the place he makes himself bypass chilly turkey, particularly terrible, yet particularly nicely worth it, sturdy action picture too with a sturdy soundtrack. Hollywoodland with Val kilmer is particularly sturdy too.

Yes, many people are. It takes work, but if you need some role models for her, check with Alanon or Alateen and they can also provide support for you. Best wishes to you both.

an addict usually loses touch with other parts of their life, except the drugs. plus drugs are a huge waste of money. so no, unless you're an addict yourself.
