So tomorrow is my 3 month anniversary with my boyfriend. When I brought up going out to dinner, he said, "but, wait, that's election day! I want to watch the polls." He asked if we could go out a different day, which is fine with me. The thing is, though, he really doesn't seem to be into the whole "anniversary thing." This normally wouldn't bother me except I know he used to do sweet things for his ex (i.e. like surprise her with ballroom dancing lessons). I know we haven't been dating for that long, but is it a bad sign if he just doesn't seem that excited about our anniversary?

Why do people celebrate month aniversaries anyways?

Anniversary means to return to YEARLY. That's one YEAR not one MONTH!

I suppose a celebrating each month would be called a luniversary. Thats sounds dumb though, and I don't think there is such a word.

I don't get all that excited about months. It's the YEARS that matter.

No, I don't think it's a bad sign. The reason the anniversary date may not be that important to him is because you are celebrating monthly. He knows you will have a fourth, and a fifth, etc. It is still very early in your relationship, and a real milestone would be a little longer time period. See how he is at six months. Also, this is a very important election to a lot of people. If he's really into it, you have to understand that.

Men on a whole are not big about anniversaries. Men visualize time differently than women, for the most part we keep track of it just enough to get to work, or not miss a dentist appointment. This is for all women out there, don't take it the wrong way if your boyfriend, husband, or whoever forgets. Women remember dates, numbers, anniversary times, birthdays...etc. He might not even realize or consider the importance. If it is important to you, let him know and say "make it up to me." It does not have to be celebrated the day of or the hour of. Besides, if you tell your significant other in a sweet way to make it up to you, they got a few days to plan something nice. Rather than let it cause friction, turn it around. Take care.

That's so cool that your anniversary lands on such an exciting day. Make it an event WITH him. Something simple and nice earlier in the evening. Give him something small, but related to the election, just as a momento. Truthfully, going out to dinner and flowers are nice, but it's the real life stuff you do together that says the most about where your relationship is going.

You are not his ex, so don't compare what he did for her with what he does now. Each relationship is different. Staying home to watch the elections is a weak excuse for not celebrating an anniversary. I would watch him to see if he is really committed to you. Not all guys are excited about anniversaries, especially the earlier ones. See what he does at 6 months.

The anniversary thing tends to mean more to chicks than to dudes...and if he's been in relationships in the past where every weekly or monthly anniversary was celebrated, frankly it can get old.

It's nice you've been together for 3 months, but don't expect him to get excited every 7th of every month, that y'all have been together "X" months now...

Just be happy you are together and things are going well...and maybe make 6 mos a milestone anniversary, and then 1 yr...and leave out the months in between...

First of all... Anniversary is Annual which is a year. You mention that its only been 3 months... not years.

Second of all, its pissing you off because you're comparing yourself to his ex girlfriend... not good!

And last but not least, men don't think the same as us young ladies. Be surprised if he even remembers the day you got together. Normally, they don't! Don't worry about it, its normal for a guy to not make a big deal out of it!

Word of advice, don't compare yourself to his ex... you will only hurt yourself and probably damage the relationship you have.

Its only been three months.

Guys probably won't start feeling like its a serious thing until it reaches 6 months.

Celebrate an anniversary at 12 months.
