A cousin of mine died in her 70s of cancer early this year: when she met her husband as a young woman, she couldn't stand him. Apparently it took a couple of years before she liked him enough to go out with him. Then when they got married they had babies like they were going out of fashion!

I think dislike takes many forms and comes from different places.

If you completely and utterly detested them, probably not. But if you were feeling dislike as a defence mechanism 'cos deep down you quite fancied them, then yes.

Yes. I fell in love with this guy that I couldn't stand. We lived together for four years. As it turns out, we ended up not being right for each other. But I'm glad I had the experience.

I think you totally can, but, of course, it depends on the circumstances. You may find that the reason you initially disliked them was completely invalid, and as a result, you find yourself falling in love with them.

Everybody has a good and bad quality. The one you dislike, if you explore the good quality of him/her, certainly you will start liking and that could the beginning of the a true love.
It needs a positive look though.

Tom Cruise grew to love Val Kilmer at the end of Top Gun. Or was it the other way round?
