Now I licensed my car in a new state and I am paying vehicle tax to that state. Is this right?

Each state is allowed rto make their own rules and there is no guarantee that there will be an agreement between them to pro-rate taxes. Consequently, it is possible that you can pay tax on the same car for the same time in two different states.

usually u can send correspondence to the tax assessors office of your previous state along w/a copy of the current registration (of state u're residing in). explain that u wish for them 2 prorate the tax. 2 avoid penalties or interest, divide the tax amount 4 the year in the previous state by twelve, then multiply that amount by the number of months the veh was registered there. send that amount and wait 4 a response. Example: previous tax was July thru June. tax was $120 anually. Divide tax by 12 months ($120 by 12 = $10). u registered veh. in new state in December (5 months in previous state @ $10 per month - 5 x 10 = $50) send them a check and if they calculate a little interest, pay it and theyll be out of your nose 4ever. the only real proof u'll have is your receipt from the current state's registration, or your receipt from when u turned in your old plates 2 your motor vehicle office. hope that helps. (skip is correct...there's no guarantee, but no harm in asking either, rite?)

Is it fair? No, life is not fair. Is it the way the law works? Probably, without knowing what state is involved, its hard to tell.
