A guy here in SF was sentenced to 25 years for stealing a bike.

Richard Napoleon Brown, who is serving 25 years to life in prison for stealing a $25 car alarm from a drugstore in Northern California, and Earnest Bray Jr., who is serving a similar sentence for taking three videotapes from a mall store in Long Beach.

No one serves long sentences under the Three Strikes Law because of a "petty crime" .... they only serve long sentences under the Three Strikes Law for TWO SERIOUS or VIOLENT FELONIES, plus a third FELONY.

Example: A rape, an armed robbery plus grand theft auto.

Midemeanors are petty crimes.

To begin with petty crimes don't count toward 3 strikes and you're out laws. Three felony crimes do. Certain felony's are much more serious than others but a person who's been convicted of 3 felony offenses doesn't get much sympathy from me. 70% of prople who commit crimes never return to crime. The 30% who return to crime commit 70% of the crimes.

I know of a guy that failed a grade in elementary school, and when he was a senior in HS he dated a junior. He was 17 she was 15. He turned 18 a couple weeks before she had her bday, 15 years. Not 3 strikes, but it isn't like he was trying to do anything wrong.
