I adopted my (now) 6 month old kitten from my vets adoption agency around 4 months ago. Since then, she has been an 'only' cat. Yesterday, I went and got a 6 week old, Tonkinese, kitten from my friend (who breeds Tonks and Bengals).
Could people that have been in this situation please give me advice on HOW to introduce my cats?

Also, as my kitten is only 6 weeks old, are there any special foods I might need for her? I live in Melbourne, Australia so please don't comment and say 'go to walmart'... we don't have WalMart here.

I am currently giving both cats Whiskas wet food and Purina One dry food. I am also (trying) to give the 6 week old, some kitten milk but she doesn't seem to drink it... nor does she drink any water!

Also, she hasn't done pee or poop yet since we got her home - how do I try and get her to do something? She didn't do any in the cage that she slept in... before OR after she went to bed.

Constipation - forgot about that fact. I totally forgot to ask what brand of food she was used to at her other home.
How long should I wait to go to the vet if she doesn't do anything?
I will also do that stimulation with a cloth or toilet paper - nice idea.
I was going to do that this morning (when she woke me up at 3:30am for a belly rub and a bit of food) but thought she might do something today.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a year old cat, and just got a kittten. I feed my cats purina also, and whiskas. Soft food really is not good for cats. I would only give it to the kitten till she starts to eat the hard food. As far as her drinking try to gently stick her mouth until she begins to drink. She is still getting liquids from the can food.
As far as introduing them. I kept my kitten in a cage in the same room as the other cat. They would sniff each other out, and would hiss at each other. I did that for about a week, then I let my older cat out. They are doing fine together. Have you put your kitten in the litter box. Sometimes they will not use the same litter. Try putting her in a cage with her litter pan, food, and water. I think she will become more safer and she will start to drink and go potty. Just remember to let her out during the day so she can stretch her legs and play.
Kittens are a persons best friend. GoodLuck with your new bundle of joy. You will have many great moments with her.

Both the 6 months and the 6 week old should be on kitten chow at least until they are close to a year old. I would say the 6 week old kitten should have stayed with it's mom for at least another two weeks. Try giving the 6 week old some kitten chow moistened with the kitten milk until it is soft. You could add just about a teaspoon of the wet food to entice the kitten. Kittens are like babies, they have very delicate digestive systems. A change in diet from what it was eating could cause constipation or diarrhea. Give her what she was eating before you got her and gradually change her food over the course of a week. If the kitten still doesn't urinate or defecate, it's time to see your vet.
Introductions should go ok since they are both young, but I'd be sure to be in the same place with them just in case the older kitten decides to play a little rough with the little one.

Sit and hold the new one, and let the older one come up to her, then just let them mill about with each other, they will work out the pecking order themselves.

Until both cats are at least a year old, they need Kitten Chow. As long as it says "complete and balanced" on the label, and formulated for kittens, you'll be okay. Since you have access to Purina brands, you should be able to get Purina Kitten Chow.

Sit and watch your new kitten eat. Make sure she is actually getting food into her stomach, then follow up with water for her. A sudden change in lifestyle can upset their digestive systems. If this goes on for more than 72 hours, the not peeing or pooping, she needs to be vet checked. You can also try and make her pee, you take a wad of toilet paper and tickle her "there" with the paper... usually will make them go, that's how mom makes them go .. tickles their underneath. Sometimes peeing will make the pooping happen.

All right, well since Tigger was in the house first she may have taken your house as her territory, so Tyson is invading her territory which is causing her to act like this. My mom's cousin has two cats. One is a male named Dude and the other is a female named Oreo. Now Dude lived in their home for a long time and then she decided to adopt Oreo. She took Oreo home with her and let her roam around the house and meet Dude. After a few days Dude started chasing Oreo around like a rat, hissing, and meowing at her like crazy. They don't really get along. What you could try to do is observe them over a few more days, see if the actions change even a little bit. If things continue as they are you have to try to make them like each other. Try to find a game they both like to play. Something they can do together while your away without trying to kill each other, or when you have to leave the house separate them from one another and when you come back let each of them out and see what happens. Maybe they just need to get used to each other a little bit more. You could also ask a Vet for some tips. I hope I helped a little. :3

just let them be.if the older one takes a smake let him.cats are a little strange when it comes to new comers.i have 5 cats all at different ages and i never did anything special.the 6 week old kitten, don't give him any hard food yet that will make it hard for him to poop cause he's still only young.keep giving him wet food.you also want to get him off the milk as soon as you can cause milk can give a cat worms.yes it is true, once they have stoped drinking from the mother they need to drink water.if he does not drink the water on his own you may have to force it down your self.kittens at that age don't really know how to drink from a bowl yet so you'll have to teach them.and give him 4 days to use the bath room, keep in mind he just got taken from him mother and is eating food and not drinking milk so it will take a bit of time for him beacuse he is stressed out.the kitten food i've given to all my cat's is Science Diet.it can be a bit pricey but it does wonders on the animal.and putting a wet warm cloth on his bum to make him use the bathroom is a good idea but it can also give him a rash.so as i said, just let them be,they will understand that there gonna have to get along and if not they will keep away from each other but don't give one more attencion then the other.good luck.

We just introduced our 2 cats .
heres what u do

keep your new kitten in 1 room for a few days with everything food water , litter box toys and be company to her . After that few days is over, take your kitten downstairs and hold her and let the two cats sniff each other . (Whatever you don`t try not to let the kitten down.) Hissing is normal . Give her kitten food and you need to put the kitten in the litterbox , and she will use it , if she knows where it is . About the water / milk situation you need to keep her in 1 room like I said . she will learn where everything is at , and will drink , and eat and use her litterbox

Well I have 2 cats one's around 1 1/2 and the other's around 9 we got the old one ages ago from the Cat Protection Society in Greensborough and Tish wasn't really the most social cat she even beat up our dog! and then at the start of this year we were at the cat protection society and we saw Coco who we named she was the perfect cat because Tish was a bit of a bully but we still loved her so we brought Coco home and as soon as Coco sww Tish she walked up to her and sniffed noses Tish hissed but Coco didn't give up and eventualy wormed her way in to Tish's heart and now they get along so take some time and maybe let your 6 month old cat smell your other cats blanket and possibly your new cat may be concetapated so take it to the vets for a health check good luck.

you are using good cat food! i have used both for many years! just let them alone to work things out on their own! only interfere if the older one get to rough! a kitten at this age should go to the bathroom by it's self! try getting it's own litter box, some cats don't like to share! if that doesn't help, take the cat to the vet! 6 week old usually go allot! hope this helps you out :)

Go to a vet. My cat hates other cats and he'll just act out and in a week he starts acting better. If the cat still doesn't do her business, I'd contact a professional.
