I was living on only one kidney since i was 13. Now the doctor told me that i might not live long anymore as the other one can't survive in my body. I am almost 28 years now, and he told me it was a miracle i lived this long. I don't believe him and i want to change doctors. I am also confused. Is it true i would die? If i get a donor, can i survive? Please advise.

I'm sorry to hear about your kidney, I hope all turns out well...get on a kidney transplant list immediately...get a second opinion from another Dr. you do not need to tell the other Dr. that you went and got a second opinion...it might be possible that another Dr. can help you and get you the attention you need...don't get to worked up, try to keep yourself up beat...you know you can beat this problem, I'll pray for you...

Good Luck

If you get a donor u can live as normal life as u possible can with someone esles kidney.Find another doctor that is more encourageing for u.He sounds like a stick in the mud. You have beat the odds so far so don't let him discourage u.I wish u all the luck in the world that u get your kidney and u live a full life.My son and I are donors too.

I just had a very close friend of mine get a kidney. You will be put on a transplant list.

You can live 5-7 years on dialysis. Yes without a kidney or dialysis you can die. With a donor, you can survive.

it's always good to get a second, even third opinion under your circumstances. Yes, lots of people live with one kidney and many have had transplant. I think you have a long fruitful life in front of you and you should always think positive and not negative! Wish you the best of health! I agree with "just browsen" as the Mayo Clinic is world famous for its medical abilities! Don't worry about money because they will treat you none the less!

You need to go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. I was under the impression you could get a transplant - don't give up until you find someone that can and will help you! Good luck!

Yes! Someone suggested Mayo Clinic - do it! they could save your life! There are organizations that can help you with expenses!

Get a second opinion. Don't switch doctor's unless you find out he doesn't know what he's talking about. If he's a good and conscientious physician he will have no problem if you tell him you'd like a second opinion. It's your body and you have every right to as much information as you can get.
