my daughter called me at work to say i was to phone ian at my bank. the operator asked me what is ians last name and i explained that he hadnt left his surname. when she asked for his department, i said i didnt know.

"there are 1500 employees in this building, sir" she advised me rather curtly.

so i aked her for her name.

"danielle," she said.

"and your last name?" i asked.

"sorry," she replied, "we dont give out our last names."

...and you said AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Maybe they need to tell their employees to at least give their department!

When one of the great un-surnamed phones out and asks to be called back they should have a procedure in place where THEY let the reception people know that when Mr/Mrs/Ms Whoever calls back they want to speak to ME!

Easily done surely!

If they can't even manage such a minor detail - then I would wonder how well they manage other aspects of their bank and would probably be looking for a new bank!

Isn't that just IT! They'll drive you nuts. And of course she wouldn't give you her name...she's pretty sure you'd want to report her for the discourtesy!
