It means that you will have to clearly support the statement with evidence from your readings. Your own personal opinion (unless requested specifically for it) is not enough to support a statement; you must provide information from other sources.
Think of it as winning an argument: giving your own opinion only is like saying "Because" to answer a question, while citing examples and external sources to support your answer would be like saying "Because a) b) c) and d)".... You see how the latter is clearly more effective than the first.
