around my community more than ever. Would it be weird (being a girl) if I went around and picked it up early mornings?

This is very admirable of you to care about your community. Perhaps you can rally together others in the community for their assistance.

In California, we have a highway program that many companies take up a certain length of highway and are responsible for cleaning up the roads. For the areas that are not claimed, people who have small infractions of the law do this on the weekend in lieu of spending time incarcerated.

If your community/church formed a committee, you could enlist more people and everyone can take a part in appreciating the cleanliness of the area around them. Also, they will be less likely to feel free to toss papers out of the car window, etc.

That would be a wonderful thing for your community. Maybe you could put up a flyer in the community, encouraging people to do the same. Or have a monthly neighborhood cleanup (a good way to meet the neighbors).

The laws may vary in states, but in California the owner of the property is legally responsible for keeping the sidewalks in front of their property clean.

thats not weird at all! Maybe you could even get people to help you? Just make sure to stay safe, because working on the side of a road early in the morning isnt always the safest thing. Good luck!

Weird? No way! It just shows that you care about your community enough to make a difference.Sometimes it just takes someone like you to get the wheel turning, by showing others the difference your effort makes, they might actually decide to help out with the cause. Was it Ghandi that said "Be the change you would like to see in the world." Kudos to you!

One time my son tossed a paper towel out of the car window. I was driving the car but did not tell him to do it. The police stopped us,and we had to go to court. My son was sentenced to picking up trash on both sides of the road for one mile. Because he would be by himself, I took the day off work and helped him. I dropped him off at the starting point and drove one mile and parked. He started toward the car, I started away from the car. WHen he got to the car, he drove up to pick me up. We picked the bags up as we drove back down. There was an amazing amount of bags of trash. Just cans, and paper and cigarette packs and the like. I never litter. I hope my son will never litter again. It really opens your eyes to how much trash there really is when you start picking it up.

No, in several high end communities, the residents work to keep the neighborhood clean all the time.
