I have two cats with Feline Acne. They are both FeLV/FIV tested and negative.
Make sure you are using stainless steel bowls. Plastic seems to make it worse.
I clean their chin every other day with Acne pads...like from Wal-Mart. Works very well.

If you are worried about diseases, have the cat tested.

Here is some info.....

Good luck!!

FeLV in cats is not like leukemia in people. It is not treated like cancer with chemo and all.
And I do not think there are drugs readily available to treat FIV!!!! You do not give your cat a drug cocktail like people take!!!!!!!!

This is not a "disease" and won't cause you or the cat much of a bother. It usually comes from using plastic bowls and dishes for water and food. The bowls accumulate bacteria even though well washed and that is transferred to the cat.

Changing to glass bowls should clear it up in no time. Stainless steel or ceramic will do too.

My cat had the same thing! I had no idea cats could get acne lol! I thought he was just being dirty when I saw those black spots all on his chin. And its true, he was eating out of a plastic dish...we switched to a stainless steel one and no more acne!

My kitty Lucky had the same thing happen to her.

There are 2 reasons I know of for the spot on her chin.

#1 If she eats/drinks out of a plastic bowl she may be having an reaction to the plastic. Change to glass/ceramic/paper/metal.

#2 Watch her to see if she is scratching under her chin. My kitty really hurts her jaw because of her scratching. Their jaw skin is sensitive and thinner than her other body parts.

Yes, kitty's can get diseases. Don't worry yourself sick. All you need to do is get her vaccinated. Call around I found a place in my state that not only neuters/spays they also vaccinate and treat ear mites all for 67$ IF kitty needs extra after ALL that then TEAM will hook up kitty for very cheap. The shots alone are 11$ each!

Leukemia in cats is like it is in humans. It is cancer. Some owners have paid upto and over 10 thousand dollars for treatment of cat cancer.
The same for Feline HIV. It is very similar to Human HIV. There are medicines to supress the virus. There are also plenty of medications to help with all of the side fx.

Some owners have actually used herbal remedys to treat their kitty's HIV. I believe there is 1 human HIV med that is safe for kitty.

Vet care, vaccinations and keeping kitty away from strays will help in preventing the diseases.

If kitty goes out make shure ALL of her vaccinations are up to date. Especially the Rabies/Distemper ones.

Good luck with kitty! :)

~Ciao~

feline acne has nothing to with fiv/leukemia. Some cats have acne others do not just like humans. using a human acne wipe(stridex etc) can help.
