It depends.
Most of the time you don't.
But in my case....

My boyfriend and I were friends for a long time so we knew each other pretty well before we started going out. We knew what we both wanted in a relationship. We talked about it. We wanted someone we could be with for the rest of each other's lives. We didn't want some random fling or some temporary uncaring relationship. We wanted something real and we wanted something to last. We even told each other to let one another know when the other is being annoying or making the other frustrated with something so that we can try to fix it. Because we really do love each other and want this to last. So that being said, we know it's gonna last. It's been 9 months so far.

So it's pretty much about communication and real love.
And you don't know if any of it is real at the very moment you meet that person.
You have to give it time.

You don't know. I know that sucks, but love is a risk. If you think it might fail, it probably will. And if you think it may last, then it still might not. It's like a catch 22, but you definitely need to give your all in order for there to be a chance at it lasting. And another thing, just have faith in the relationship and in your boyfriend. Make sure you have strong communication and trust and those will help the relationship to remain strong.

One never knows if it's going to last. You simply have to decide whether you are willing to find out how long. If you care deeply and are cared for, then it is a risk worth exploring. If that is not the case, then the risk is too great.

You don't. Nothing in this life is guaranteed. Although there are strong signs that a relationship is going to have a lot more longevity than others.
