I am going to start purchasing my meat at Whole foods, they seem to have great humaine plans in store for the animals.

most people who farm raise their food have it processed at the butchers (he does the killing to the packaging)

Well first of all USDA laws say an animal must come in the knackery door alive, so they can't put an animal out of it's misery if it breaks a leg, until in the slaughterhouse, that's not their choice that is federal law. Being put to death for any living thing is only kind if quick, and it varies, broken neck or an axe for poulty, sledgehammer or bullet on cattle, then they hang them up to drain the blood and clean them. Not much different than going out and shooting a deer. I ask you remember you were born with sharp teeth and a diet requiring meat to survive. And that the alternative death for animals is disease, starvation, road kill, or being eaten alive by predators, given those options of death I like the slaughterhouse methods better.

Okay I just have to say that the only difference is how they live not how they die most farm/range animals have room to roam and eat hay have a better live until they die. There really is no humane way to kill a animal for food. You cant pump them full of drugs to put to sleep is contaminates the meet.

As far as I know they kill most cows with a punch gun. Its an air powered spike that is driven into the front of the skull. Supposedly the death is almost instant. Think they just decapitate the chickens. Not sure about other animals.

I believe electrocution is the current method. At one time the slaughter houses used rifles to end their lives, but this is not used much anymore. I believe sledge hammers to the head were tried without much success.

They are killed, chopped up, and then changed into easily masticated nugget form.
