The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.

They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"

If the ywere buried near Jerusalem- possibly. It is known that they came alive for some period of time, were seen by many people, then died again later on. Who knows how long they were alive, but they did die again. But they are not named.

Good question. More, the word "holy" has changed meaning from the original Aramaic. At one time, I believe it meant, "that which must not be named or seen or spoken of except by those authorized. God's name was holy as was his temple. His image was holy, and thus never used. Using the name of God has mistakenly been converted to the idea of not using swear words and taking the lord's name in vain.
So who were the holy men brought back? I understand why they couldn't name them, being holy, but who were they? Why were they holy?

They were just average Jews buried in the area.
