I've been in a few.
They are usually unloving, unforgiving, performance based churches. They are constantly judging each other over violations of man-made rules, and constantly arguing over their personal interpretations of obscure passages of scriptures.
As a result, they never get very big, because they usually split sooner or later over some tiny issue, and start a new church.
Legalism usually puts a lot of emphasis on human performance and external religious behavior behavior, but too little emphasis on the attitude of the heart, which is what God sees. Legalism is shallow, superficial Christianity where people take pride in their own ability to obey rules, instead of humbly putting their faith in God.

Legalistic churches focus on appearances. Like if you dress like a "christian." They tell you which movies and music you ought not to listen to and which friends to hang out with.
Ah, the Bible College I went to was pretty legalistic. Certain types of music were forbidden and I was told not to listen to the radio even :) Also most movies were right out of the window.
That kind of stuff never keeps people for long. It combines the worst sort of parent with religion.

A legalistic church is one that picks and chooses which of the 10 commandments it will obey. As if they had a choice. But most people (churches) do not want to keep all of the 10, so, when a church or person does keep all of them, they (the commandment keeper) is accused of being a leakiest, and is shunned, and is told the fairy tail that we no longer have to obey God in that one commandment, but did not God tell us that to break one of the least of the commandments is to break them all? So, if you omit even one, you are a law breaker, and are guilty of breaking all of them, and will not get to go to heaven with Christ when He comes back to get His people, and will not be allowed into the Holy City of God the New Jerusalem, and will have their portion with those who will be out side of the city and who will be destroyed once and for all.

yes do not much like um, but they should have a process of evaluating the flock and deciding if what they are doing is successful. I found these churches have more sin going on than I expected or in my experience the other churches I attended.
