I've been diagnosed with bipolar and panic attacks. I take Depakote and Zoloft but was wondering if the zoloft can eventually become ineffective?

It is posswible for your system to build a tolerance or resistance to any medication. Blood levels drawn every so often identify this and allow the doctors to determine dosage or continuance of the particular medication.

All medicine can become ineffective after expiring, or if used with another medication, or if used too much/often, so I would say tht Zoloft could definitely become ineffective. Talk to your doctor to get a definite answer, though.

As with almost any drug with prolonged use our body will become used to it. Eventually your doctor will put you on something else, but that won't be for years and years. Just like with antibiotics and painkillers. Abuseres of painkiller eventually get used to them so they end up getting a higher dosage. Good Luck!

Not according to the info I have seen.

Sertraline is the other name of Zoloft and the info page is below.

all medications eventually loose their potency. i would check into what might be causing your mental disease. (most docs don't admit to it, but depression as well as other mental diseases could be cause by viral infections of some sort or even environmental pollution).

Viral infections and chemicals are much smarter than medication.

i would seek the advice of a doctor and go from there.

It is very possible, your levels need to be checked and it is possible that you may need a stronger dosage or a different med for the bi-polar condition.
